The availability, cost, and quality of water supplies are critical concerns for military installations and military operations within the United States and around the world.  Many U.S. military installations are concentrated in regions where drought stress is prevalent.  Of equal concern is the increasing interdependence of water and energy supplies, in which water is required to produce energy and energy is required to provide water.  To address these issues, SERDP and ESTCP develop and demonstrate technologies to achieve the following:

  • improve the conservation of water
  • deploy re-use technologies that reduce the use of potable water for non-potable purposes
  • reduce the energy required to provide, use, or treat water
  • enhance the quantity and quality of water supplies.
