Evaluation of Discrimination Technologies and Classification Results
MR-201104
Demonstration Summary
Parsons Corporation, a leading industrial firm in munitions cleanup, is participating in a series of demonstrations to show that advanced techniques can be transferred from the research community to the production community. This project seeks to demonstrate and compare the use of industry standard electromagnetic induction (EMI) data collection and processing techniques with more advanced collection systems and processing techniques. In addition to the use of advanced data collection technologies, this project will implement more stringent field data collection and management techniques developed previously by ESTCP. If successful, a significant reduction in the number of anomalies excavated will be realized and cost savings achieved.
Technology Description
The technologies to be demonstrated by this project include the industry standard Geonics EM61-MK2, as well as the following advanced sensors developed under SERDP and ESTCP: Geometrics' MetalMapper and the Naval Research Laboratory's Time-domain Electromagnetic Multi-sensor Towed Array Detection System (TEMTADS). All sensors will be geo-referenced with Real Time Kinematic (RTK) global positioning system (GPS) equipment. In addition to the data collection, Parsons will process collected data using the UX-Analyze module in Oasis Montaj. Within UX-Analyze the field data will be compared to physics-based library models with measured sensor responses and decay rates for individual anomaly discrimination purposes.
